Ruby

Earlier today, after my last paper was finally done, I walked back to my room just like any other day. The path down the walkway led to the short diversion into NIE which in turn opened up to the various communial halls. The smells of the new hall canteen rised up from it's air-conditioned environment, carrying with it the conversations and laughters of it's loyal patrons.

A cut right and I found myself surrounded by the familiar halls that still had the Chinese New Year banners hung till this day. Strolling along the pavement, I will look for my classmates' cars lined up neatly in the parking lots. That is when I know that my room is just a left turn away.

Opening the door, I promptly put down my notes as I walked towards the window and proceeded to pull open the curtains when suddenly I felt an immense pain in my heart and half-collapsed, dropping to a kneel while my mind ran around shouting for help.

It was at this very moment that I subconsciously glanced through the window and what layed before me was the most beautiful piece of painting I have ever seen.

The whole sky was filled up by mists of brilliant red clouds, tides of ruby moving quietly among the heavens. A faint ray of orange light shot out from behind the clouds and began to spread itself out, brightening the precious jewels in the skies.

For a moment, for that very split second my mind said out loud, "yes, you can take me now. Relive me of this pain, and paint me along with this, take me now."

But it was not to be.

Moments later the pain subsided away along with the clouds and left me empty like the barren skies.
